Watching Miss Singapore Universe 2007 now...was going to mention something that I thought was rather awkward but thanks to my mind spasming from discovering the loss of my SD card from my camera I lost my train of thoughts. Cheese buns. Plus someone stole my phone from my sis last night...come on karma....if there is such a thing please let it do its magic now. Oh right and after kicking up somewhat of a fuss about the poor service and quality of food at NYNY at CityLink, Billy Bombers at Heeren and Ichiban Sushi at AMK Hub my sis ever so coincidentally told me that she met the owner of NYNY the night before...it went something like this... sis' friend: And this is the owner of NYNY... sis: *stares at the owner* owner: Hi!...........what? sis: Did you know my bro was complaining about your eatery? (I really don't think it qualifies as a restaurant on any level. The food at your local coffee shop tastes a lot better than what was presented to me on that fine day) He mentioned that the service was crap, unprofessional and worse of all the food wasn't even...*blah blah blah* owner: What! Serious? Hey next time you have any problems just call me and I will... Well I think that's about how it went but I am going to get my money's worth of this situation. Yeah yeah its no where close to Lawry or any of your high end dining but honestly, to think that outlets like this are getting away with nhagoengolholahgahnp;h9%%*(% huff hufff huff Time for me to get off the comp and I have noticed that my ability to narrate has come crashing down. Think of rock bottom....add another 50 feet below that and there's me. I was also meant to show you guys a new toy that Jes gave me a while back but got to find my memory card first. Bloody hell. [edit] Was reading the papers just then and can no longer ignore the surge of articles/reports/reflections on V. Tech worldwide. Well as you all know the issue has turned to the backlash on Asians that might ensue due to one crazy guy who happened to be of that race. Honestly I don't think that race is such an important factor in circumstances like this, if it must be mentioned, it is only another obstacle that divides mankind. There is one particular article that caught my attention.Tamara K. Nopper. An educator/writer/activist located in Philadelphia with a PhD in sociology. Half a page on the papers has been dedicated to an essay that she has written on her blog whereby she ponders and evaluates the aftermath of all this. It is not her writing itself that caught my attention but its conduct. She often draws a clear line between people - and when I mean people, I mean races. In her essay she is generous with the terms "white media" and "Asian Americans", what I believe to be the spotlight in this frenzy. If everything goes according to how everyone fears it would, they may be known as the "perpetrators" and the "victims" in how I believe Nopper to have viewed things. However what I fear is the racist move that Asians will have against the whites like how Nopper's article demonstrates - which is obviously what is not needed now or at any moment in time. This is evident in her article that writes "the white media might actually ask Asian Americans our perspectives for a change". She continues with "We will probably be expected to apologise in some way for the behaviour of another Asian - something whites never have to collectively do when one of theirs engages in (mass) violence, which is often." With the media already a complicit of Cho by airing his videos and photos like he wanted, I hope that others are better than that. Better than to be influenced by any of this "propaganda" that turns one race against another whether it may be whites or African Americans or Asians etc. |
